Strategic Relevance
Wheat is of paramount strategic importance due to its role as a primary food source for the Iranian population. Government intervention through procurement, subsidies, and import management aims to ensure stable supply and affordable prices, making it a key component of national food security policy.
Geography
Major wheat cultivation occurs in provinces such as Gilan, Golestan, Khorasan, Khuzestan, and Fars. Processing facilities, including large-scale mills, are distributed across various provinces, with notable concentrations in Tehran, Alborz, Qazvin, Fars (Shiraz), and Isfahan. Key ports like Amirabad (Caspian Sea) are important for grain transit and imports.
